Intro to the 99 Ruck Club Premium Membership

Welcome to the Premium Membership!

You've elected to get more out of the 99 Ruck Club. This will entail an additional 2-3 ruck-based workouts per week, in addition to the Saturday Ruck Club workout.

These are designed to be full-body workouts that improve your cardiovascular conditioning, muscular endurance, and strength. With that in mind, we recommend that you do not perform these workouts on consecutive days [meaning: take a rest day in between, or do some other form of fitness training].

Please read over the Rucking 101 blog post to make sure you understand common terminology that is used to explain ruck workouts.

You're obviously getting serious about this. So we recommend you have a few pieces of basic equipment to get the most out of your Premium Membership [although this is not required]:

  • A rucksack or plate carrier with an appropriate amount of weight

    • If you are new to rucking, somewhere between 10-20lbs is usually a sufficient starting point. If you have rucked before consider going heavier.

  • A kettlebell, dumbbell, or additional sandbag

    • Again, this should be tailored to your strength and conditioning levels.

    • It is also okay if you do not have additional weight to start, as you can often use your ruck backpack in place of a kettlebell/dumbbell

  • A decent pair of shoes designed for running or rucking

We are not affiliated with any of these brands (although hopefully we can get a GORUCK sponsorship in the future!). But we recommend buying a high-quality rucksack/plate carrier. Trust us, it is worth the money to not have your backpack tear every couple of weeks. And we typically recommend getting your weights as cheap as possible, since iron/sand is the same if you buy Rogue or you buy it from a knock-off brand. Recommendations:

  • Rucksacks/Plate carriers:

  • Cheaper ruck plates - Be careful when purchasing, these are not designed to fit all brands of weight vests or plate carriers. They work well in backpacks and the goruck weight vest, but will likely not fit the 5.11 weight vest.

  • Dumbbell or kettlebell: scour Facebook marketplace or craigslist for the cheapest stuff you can find!

    • Feel free to buy new through Rogue or other brands also!

  • Shoes: up to you. There isn't really anything special about "ruck" shoes vs running shoes. Just wear what is comfortable to walk/jog/run in and you will be fine.

If you have more specific questions about what gear to buy, email us (contact@elevateptnw.com) or talk to one of us at the Saturday ruck!

Keep checking back in weekly for your custom ruck workouts!
